I have...an idea. I'd like to think it's a good one. However, I'd like to hear others' thoughts on this, lest I find myself in way over my head with no one to say, "I told you so."

See, I was pondering the unavoidable fact that some RPers swipe artwork in order to have some pictoral reference for their characters. I'm sure I'm not alone in being miffed more by the character theft than by the use of the artwork. So, I thought, why not offer some uncolored wolf lineart and even some full color pictures of non-characters, throw-away designs, and, well, just your standard generic RP wolves for folks to use? Of course, I wouldn't want to have that artwork alongside artwork of my own or others' characters (if only so no one gets confused about what is and is not okay to use), so I figured I'd create a separate account for the free-for-RP-use stuff. Then I thought, why not have it be a club? Some sort of resource to point people to when they ask if they can use your art for their RP or blog or whatever. There'd be rules, of course: not cropping out signatures, no modifying the artwork (except in the case of the lineart, which could be colored, have backgrounds added, etc.), crediting the artist, and linking back to the artist. All that good stuff.

Now, I'm not naive enough to think that this would stop those people who intend to use art and characters without asking or crediting. And there's always the risk of people following the links back to mine or someone else's gallery to pick up some things from there, too. However, if used as intended, I do think it could make for a convenient -- and even fun -- resource.

And, hell, I've already done a lineart of a generic warrior wolf, complete with scarred eye. (Other generic wolves to include: the hot bitch; the independent she-wolf; the angsty loner; the litter of spunky, precious, you-know-you'd-kill-them-in-real-life precocious pups. Am I missing anyone?)

So, thoughts?
